Arkansas
They didn’t have to do it, but they did it anyway. The Arkansas house stuck a finger in the eye of marriage equality, voting support for DOMA. The Advocate reports:

A committee of the Republican-dominated Arkansas house overwhelmingly approved a resolution supporting the state’s constitutional ban against same-sex marriage, as well as the federal Defense of Marriage Act, which the Supreme Court is set to decide on the constitutionality of soon. With no discussion or roll call, the resolution passed Friday morning.

This kind of thing is red meat for the base. It plays well in conservative districts, but has no actual force of law.

In the end, it will be seen in the same light as those who stood up to support discrimination against African Americans in the fifties and sixties.

I wonder how many of these committee members will live to regret this grandstanding vote, especially when a son or daughter or grandchild comes out and asks them why they did it?
