Lots happening on the marriage equality front in Illinois today. First-off, the Illinois House Executive Committee is expected to vote on the marriage equality bill today, CBS reports:
An Illinois House committee could vote Tuesday on a measure allowing same-sex couples to marry. Chicago Democratic Rep. Greg Harris says he expects the House Executive Committee to approve his legislation and send it to the full body.
Passage through the state house is expected to be more difficult than the Senate passage on Valentine’s Day.
Illinois GOP Chair Pat Brady continues to be in hot water over his support of the bill, WBEZ says:
The controversial leader of the Illinois Republican Party has now cancelled a major fundraiser as he waits to find out whether party bosses will fire him following his public support of same-sex marriage. Illinois GOP Chairman Pat Brady had organized the March 19 event, which was scheduled to feature Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus. But Brady pulled the plug on the event over the weekend, after seven party bosses called a March 9 special meeting that could end with his ouster.
The GOP continues to shoot itself in the foot on the marriage equality issue.
And the Northwest Herald reports on a rally in Woodstock, Illinois against the bill:
With an Illinois House committee vote on gay marriage looming, dozens of McHenry County residents rallied against same-sex marriage Monday outside state Rep. Jack Franks’ Woodstock office… Several conservative groups, including Lake County Right to Life, McHenry County Right to Life and the Illinois Family Institute, helped organize Monday’s rally in an effort to push Franks to take a stand on the same-sex marriage.
